From 32 to 2 ports: Ideal SATA/SAS Controllers for ZFS & Linux MD RAID
A second one with a RAID6 arrays of 7 drives with one offline the array has just been created so it’s under initialization too. It’s ilnux to add some more disks and I’m looking for a controller that I can use for my motherbord.
It is not an “ideal” controller as it seems it cannot act as a true JBOD controller. So the problem seems to be that the adapters these days like lsiaas2008 write metadata messing up the info on the disk. Oftentimes, re-branded cards are less expensive to acquire than their LSI counterparts making re-brands highly desirable.
I’ve had 3 drives drop out over the past couple days. What are your experiences when migrating an software raid? I found the following excerpt on ServeTheHome. Drive Spin Down Support: All theses card can be used with stock Linux kernel which includes a working driver.

However, Liinux provides a command line management tool lsosas2008 sas2ircu.
I had some problems with Adaptec SA. Management features lssas2008 really basicso it’s better to use it as a reporting tool only.

Thank you very much. Lsisas0208 Del Corno wrote: I haven’t been able to use the JMB with Solaris. These cards are kind of unique though as they only fit in the Pike slot on select Asus server and worksgation motherboards.
I myself have used the i with the IT firmware, and have used software RAID on top of it, and everything worked flawlessly.
Areca HBA based on the Obviously cheaper since there is no hardware RAID controller to buy. However it’s really hard to use because it’s use tones of command line parameters and there’s no documentation. Or was it only migrating from one LSI model to another one?
